What is a modular plastic chain conveyor?

modular plastic chain conveyor is used when products need stable, guided transport through a production line. It is commonly selected for bottles, cans, jars, trays, cartons and packaged goods where the conveyor must include curves, side guides, accumulation areas or machine-to-machine transfers.

Compared with a simple belt conveyor, a plastic chain conveyor gives better lateral stability, easier integration of curves and more predictable product handling in automated filling, labelling, packing and palletising lines.

A plastic chain conveyor system can be built as a straight conveyor, 90° curve, 180° curve, incline, decline, accumulation conveyor or complete multi-section line with online price configuration. This makes it useful when products need to be transported around filling machines, labellers, sealers, checkweighers, packing machines or palletising equipment.

For production environments where cleaning and reliability matter, modular plastic chain conveyors are often built with stainless steel frames, food-grade components and easily replaceable wear parts. They are a practical choice when the conveyor must be configurable, washable and suitable for continuous industrial use.

Can be washed down, but not all corners are easily reachable and may require some disassembly and more time for adequate cleaning. Suitable for areas that don't have direct product contamination but still need cleaning, or where the environment is too aggressive for non-stainless materials.

For high-care applications, the conveyor can be designed with reduced contact points, open access for cleaning, hygienic fasteners, washable bearings and AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel parts. Final design depends on product, cleaning method and hygiene zone.

Common questions

What is the difference between a modular plastic chain and a modular plastic belt?

A plastic chain has a single hinge in the center and is typically up to 305 mm wide. A modular plastic belt has a full-width hinge and can be assembled to almost any width. For narrow conveyors up to 305 mm, chain is usually the more economical choice. On wider conveyors, modular plastic belt is generally cheaper.

What products cannot be transported on plastic chain conveyors?

Products without a flat, stable base are difficult to transport on a plastic chain. Very light or unstable containers, such as tall empty PET bottles, may tip over at speed — these need guide rails, a vacuum chain or a different conveyor type. Very hot products, sharp-edged metal parts and bulk materials are also not suitable for standard plastic chain.

What is the lead time and delivery process?

Standard lead time is usually around 6–10 weeks from order confirmation, covering engineering, manufacturing, pre-assembly and functional testing. Conveyors are delivered pre-assembled where transport dimensions allow. We deliver across Europe with CE documentation and commissioning coordination. Read more on How to order.

Which component suppliers do you use?

For chains, sprockets and wear parts we use all major suppliers, for example Movex, Rexnord and Uni-chains. For gearmotors we use Nord Drivesystems and SEW Eurodrive. If you have a preferred supplier, we can build your conveyor with their components.

Can you build conveyors with the same parts we already use?

Yes. Where reasonable, we build conveyors with your preferred parts so you can keep a smaller spare parts stock in your warehouse. For example, if all your existing sprockets are Z25 with a 40 mm shaft, we can use the same parts in the new conveyor.
